Canon Raw 3 (CR3) is the current-generation raw file format used by Canon cameras, replacing the older CR2. CR3 is built on the ISO base media container — the same underlying structure as MP4 — and adds Canon’s C-RAW option, which produces files roughly 30–40% smaller than uncompressed raw with very little visible difference. Every CR3 keeps the full sensor readout plus the camera and lens metadata, so exposure and white balance stay fully adjustable.
Canon’s Digital Photo Professional is the reference application for CR3 and applies Canon’s own colour profiles.
Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw have supported CR3 since 2018, and RawTherapee and darktable now read it too. Older software may reject CR3 entirely — in that case convert it with our CR3 to JPG tool.

Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) is a type of bitmap file format that relies on pixels to form simple images using the RGB color model. Unlike the uncompressed BMP file format, GIF uses lossless compression and supports animation without audio. The most common use of GIF is in animated form as advertisements, emotion-based replies on social media, and memes, which often go viral on the Internet.
Almost all web browsers support GIF, which gives it a distinct advantage over other image formats, such as PNG. Furthermore, GIF opens on Apple’s mobile devices, including iPhone and iPad, which makes it more popular than Adobe Flash.
GIFs open easily on almost all image-viewer applications, web browsers, and operating systems. To open a GIF for the purposes of editing it, use an application such as Adobe Photoshop. On Windows, open GIFs with Microsoft Photos, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Roxio Creator NXT Pro, and others. On macOS, use Adobe image viewers and editors, including Adobe Illustrator.
