Windows Metafile Format (WMF) is a Microsoft Windows (Windows) file type that can store vector and bitmap images. Microsoft designed WMF to share graphics data between Microsoft applications. WMF is the 16-bit precursor to the 32-bit Enhanced Windows Metafile (EMF).

How to open a WMF file?

WMF opens readily on Windows on compatible image programs, such as CorelDraw Graphics Suite. Another popular program that can open WMF on both Windows and macOS is Adobe Illustrator.
