DjVu, pronounced déjà vu, is a file type that offers strong compression for high-resolution images. While similar to TIFF and PDF file types, DjVu offers much stronger compression than either of those. The most common use of DJVU files is to store scanned documents, which makes it more of a document file type than an image file. DjVu has the advantage of compressing files without sacrificing quality. However, the disadvantage is that special software is required to open DjVu.

How to open a DJVU file?

A special software program is required to open a DjVu file. You must download this software to your computer, but fortunately, it’s free. Download the DjVu Browser Plug-in, which will enable you to open the files using any modern web browser. Often, DjVu files are converted to PDF, which is more familiar to most users.

For a list of programs that open DjVu files, visit DjVu.org. In addition, several programs are available for converting DjVu files. Cross-platform converters include DjVu to PDF. In addition, a page-specific converter is available that allows you to set the level of quality and compression. The name of this program is DjVu Converter.

JPG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), is a universal file format that utilizes an algorithm to compress photographs and graphics. The considerable compression that JPG offers is the reason for its wide use. As such, the relatively small size of JPG files makes them excellent for transporting over the Internet and using on websites. You can use our compress JPEG tool to reduce the file size by up to 80%!

If you need even better compression, you can convert JPG to WebP, which is a newer and more compressible file format.
